BERKELEY, CA, UNITED STATES, October 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Megan Micco of Compass just listed 2877 Buena Vista Way on October 7, 2026, for $1,349,000. The Bay Area Modernist house was designed in 1973 by Daniel Solomon, who was a young architect teaching at UC Berkeley at the time. In 1993 he became one of six founders of the Congress for the New Urbanism, and his firm later designed Oxford Plaza in downtown Berkeley.

The house has two bedrooms, two baths and 1,487 square feet on a sloping lot. Bedrooms with an adjoining deck and bathrooms are at the entry level, with the main living spaces in the level below. The living room ceiling is more than 17 feet high and features built-in benches in recesses along two walls, with long shelves above. Glass doors open to a deck, and a fireplace sits near the doors. A low cabinet divides the dining and seating areas while leaving them open to each other. The galley kitchen has a long west-facing window above the counter. Large west-facing windows in the living room give panoramic Bay views. A stairway off the kitchen connects the house to a verdant garden overflowing with mature fruit trees and humming birds.

“The owner calls the nightly version of the panoramic bay views ‘The Big Show,’” said Megan Micco of Compass. “The windows and doors face west, so the house receives the sunset first and then the San Francisco and Marin County city lights. She says that in fall and spring the sun goes down in line with the Golden Gate Bridge. While many Berkeley hillside houses have a view, there are few that have an unimpeded, direct angle to the Pacific Ocean.”

Buena Vista Way is part of La Loma Park, an estate that was subdivided into building lots in 1900. Bernard Maybeck owned several parcels there, sold lots to friends and clients, and designed houses on the street. The street also includes the Hume Cloister, a Berkeley landmark based on a French cloister, and the Temple of Wings, built around classical columns. Each was built for a different owner in a different decade, and 2877 is the street’s 1973 addition.

Solomon was born in San Francisco in 1939 and earned his Master of Architecture at UC Berkeley in 1966. He joined the architecture faculty that year and taught until 2000. His later work includes the Pacific Heights Townhouses in San Francisco, completed in 1978, and Oxford Plaza, completed in 2009, which has 97 subsidized homes near BART, the university and the library. He received the Seaside Prize in 1998 and the AIA California Council’s Maybeck Award in 2004.
