Sleep in Heavenly Peace's Bunks Across America Builds Thousands of Beds, Delivers Hope Nationwide

Eighth Annual Event Unites Volunteers, Communities and Partners to End Child Bedlessness
“Bunks Across America is the heartbeat of our organization,” said Jordan Allen, CEO of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. “This year, 17,000 volunteers came together in communities across the country, proving once again that when we work as one, we can change thousands of lives in a single day. Every one of these beds represents a child who will sleep safely and comfortably tonight.”
That surge in volunteer support was fueled in part by Young Men's Service League (YMSL) chapters nationwide, which selected Bunks Across America as their 9/11 Day of Service project and named SHP their Ultimate Gift recipient this year. YMSL moms and sons showed up at build sites across the country, embodying the hands-on, family-driven spirit that powers BAA.
While SHP works year-round to combat child bedlessness, BAA serves as a powerful rallying point for communities to come together and make a tangible difference in the lives of children.
In Roseburg, Oregon, volunteers with the SHP-OR, Umpqua Valley chapter delivered a bed to the daughter of Christopher W. that same afternoon, just hours after he helped build it.
“You guys are donating a bed to my daughter today,” said Christopher W., the father of a bed recipient. “I might as well donate my time. It’s the least I can do.”
This year’s event was strengthened by expanded partnerships, including hundreds of BAA events hosted in Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lots nationwide. Of those, 41 were exclusive builds held in partnership with Lowe’s Independent Home Services PROviders and local SHP volunteers. As the founding partner of SHP, Lowe’s has exceeded its promise of building 20,000 beds this year alone.
