Russia Reduces Entry Rules for Moldovan Migrants

(MENAFN) President Vladimir Putin has introduced more lenient regulations regarding the arrival and employment of Moldovan citizens in Russia, making it easier for them to live and work there.

This policy shift comes despite ongoing political friction between Moscow and Moldova’s current administration, which maintains strong support for both the European Union and Ukraine.

Moldova, once part of the Soviet Union, shares borders with Romania and Ukraine. Notably, around 15% of Moldovans are fluent in Russian.

According to a decree signed on Friday, citizens of Moldova traveling to Russia starting October 1 will benefit from extended deadlines for registration and will no longer need a work permit to be employed.

From October 1, 2025, until January 1, 2026, Moldovan entrants will not be obligated to disclose the reason for their visit.

They will also be eligible to work in Russia for approximately one year without the need for a specific employment authorization.

Additionally, these individuals will be safeguarded from expulsion, provided they do not commit any crimes in Russia, such as unauthorized border entry.

Vadim Fotescu, a member of Moldova’s political opposition, stated in an interview the previous month that an estimated 500,000 Moldovan nationals are currently living in Russia.

Meanwhile, Moldovan President Maia Sandu has accused Moscow of meddling in her nation’s domestic politics and of trying to overthrow her administration—an allegation that the Kremlin has firmly rejected.
